Welcome to The Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia, New Delhi, one of the oldest clubs of its kind in the region.

We are this year celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding in 1958 of the Foreign Correspondents’ Association, which became the FCC in 1991-92 - around the same time that the club acquired its current central Delhi premises.

From an exclusive group of foreign correspondents based in India and covering the South Asian region, we have grown into a significant media club. We have a total of over 400 members including about 200 foreign correspondents, 100 local journalist associates, and other associates such as diplomats, lawyers, and people dealing with the media from non-governmental organizations and companies.

New members are always welcome - there is a link to the membership application form on this page.

To celebrate our 50th anniversary, Penguin Books India has published an anthology of articles and photographs going back to the 1950s – "Foreign Correspondent – 50 Years of Reporting South Asia". In their introduction, the book's editors write:

"It has been said that journalism is 'the first draft of history' – incomplete, momentary, often opinionated, but history-in-the-making nonetheless. We hope that this illustrated anthology of great reportage, analysis, writing - and stories that just demand your attention - will be seen as such a ‘draft report’, complementing other non-fiction books. We have tried to show the range of what we write about, from politics to tigers, from business to inequality, from religious fanaticism to fans of P.G.Wodehouse."

The FCC is a member of the International Association of Press Clubs (IAPC) and the FCC’s current president, John Elliott, is the president of the IAPC for 2008-09. Members of the FCC are welcomed in all the IAPC clubs around the world (see the IAPC website), and we specially welcome IAPC affiliated overseas club members when they visit India.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hosted Foreign Correspondent members of the FCC to tea at his residence on March 27 to mark the 50th anniversary of the club. He was presented with an anthology of 50 years of foreign correspondents' articles and photographs, "Foreign Correspondent - 50 Years of Reporting South Asia", that had just been published by Penguin Books India.
